About the Course
This programme aims to equip trainees with practical approaches in counselling individuals. The programme will be conducted in an interactive learning format to give trainees a better understanding of counselling, develop greater self-awareness and enhance their personal qualities as effective people helpers in the workplace as well as in the community.
These are the 4 main topics to be taught in this course:
▪ Uphold ethical values and confidentiality in counselling. (Helper Qualities and Therapeutic Relationship)
▪ Apply communication techniques and prevent barriers in the communication process (Counselling Micro-Skills and Techniques)
▪ Apply active listening and questioning techniques (Apply Empathetic Listening using C.R.O.P.S)
▪ Engagement and support to clients (Using Counselling Framework P.A.D.I in counselling)

Who Should Attend
This course is targeted to upskill workers who work with people, such as human resource staff, supervisors, managers new entrants to social work, social workers, para-counsellors, policemen and other social service practitioners in a range of sectors (i.e. hospitals, schools, religious organisations, etc).
This course is also suitable for the general public with little or no background of counselling but who are interested to become effective people-helpers to those in distress and need support.
Award
Trainees who meet 75% class attendance and achieve “Competent” for all assessments will be issued a Statement of Attainment (SOA) awarded by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
Your Trainer
Mr Lim Mou Nyee
Mr Lim Mou Nyee has more than 15 years of counselling experience and spent close to 10 years teaching in a local polytechnic. In his career, he has always been involved in helping and developing people. Mou Nyee also spent close to 8 years in a managerial position in his career and at one time, oversaw a department of 24 staff. Mou Nyee’s extensive career in the helping profession allows him to work with different groups of people with various issues. He has worked with youths - especially youths with mental health, behavioural issues and youths who have had a brush with the law, young adults with self-esteem, mental health challenges and at a crossroads about life, parenting and etc. He also does marriage counselling and has experience managing cases that were referred by the courts for family/spousal violence. Mou Nyee also had experience providing school-based counselling for a period of 4 years and ran many group work programs for youths, couples and parents.
