About the Course
This course will help to upskill one's knowledge and abilities in managing difficult behaviours of seniors.
Identify the signs, stages and causes of challenging behaviours of seniors including social, psychological and cultural issues
Manage a vast variety of seniors’ challenging behaviours by using ABREAST techniques, Triple A method, “B-G” tips and many more
Take preventive measures to minimise or avoid seniors’ challenging behaviours
Examine personal roles and bias towards seniors
Apply strategies for effective care management of seniors
Course Objectives
Identify and understand the root causes as well as key issues of the seniors’ challenging behaviours
Learn useful and easy-to-remember techniques, tips, method and strategies applicable to different difficult behaviours
Minimise or prevent occurrence and re-occurrence of seniors’ challenging behaviours
Proper follow-up on senior care and effective care management
Who Should Attend
This course is to upskill social work associates, programme officers, allied health workers, caregivers, domestic helpers, volunteers, people working with the elderly and aspiring/ fresh entrants to the social service industry.
Learners should be able to listen to, speak, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3 and use numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 3.
Award
Trainees who meet 75% class attendance and achieve “Competent” for all assessments will be issued a Statement of Attainment (SOA) awarded by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
Your Trainer
Ms Sandra Foo
Sandra is a Nurse Educator with extensive training and facilitation experiences in the areas of Caregivers Training, Dementia Awareness Training and Training of Community Service Support Workers and Befrienders, equipping learners with practical knowledge and skills to build their confidence and competencies in caring for seniors at home, at work and within the community.
A Registered Nurse by profession, Sandra has served in Acute Care Hospital, Community Hospital, Home Care / Eldercare Services so she could weave together practical caregiving tips and patient-centred care knowledge to enrich her learners’ learning journey and enhanced the quality of care for seniors.
Sandra has regularly been invited by strategic partners at the Corporate & Community levels to conduct health talks such as Fall Prevention, Care for Elderly at Home, Chronic Diseases Management, Skin Care, Dementia Care, Active Ageing & Mental Well Being, Be Active ! Wellness Programme etc.
Sandra holds an Honours Degree in Social Sciences (National University of Singapore), a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management (Singapore Institute of Management, SIM), a Diploma in Nursing (Nanyang Polytechnic) and an Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (ACTA) (Institute of Adult Learning). Prior to joining the healthcare sector, she facilitated workshops for corporate development exercises, team building events and workshops that coached job seekers in their job search.
