Intermediate Training in Gestalt Play Therapy (Corporate/Private run only)

INTRODUCTION

William Pollard said “Information is a source of learning. But unless it is organized, processed, and available to the right people in a format for decision making, it is a burden, not a benefit”. In the clinical practice, there is a compelling need to organize the information gleaned from the therapeutic process to provide relevant insights and support for our clients.

This Intermediate Training is designed for those who have completed the Basic Training in Gestalt Therapy with Children and Adolescents using the Oaklander Approach. Extending from the Basic Training, we will continue to examine the Gestalt perspective of child development, both healthy and interrupted, particularly focusing on grounding the therapist in making assessments, diagnoses and treatment plans using the Oaklander Model that is applicable to our clients.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This 4-day workshop (28 hours) will examine closely those factors that bring about change and growth for a child or adolescent through the therapeutic process of Gestalt Therapy. Emphasis will be on developing robust assessments, diagnosis and plans so that participants will be able to present case materials using the Gestalt framework in a manner that other mental health therapists can relate to. Working in small groups, participants will have opportunities for group consultation and practice.

At the end of the training, you will:

  • Have an understanding of the principles of Gestalt Therapy and how it is adapted for use in the Oaklander Model
  • Learn to frame observations and formulations in the Gestalt framework
  • Develop a clinical formulation based on the Oaklander Model of Gestalt Therapy
  • Practice making assessments and treatment plans using case studies given
