WSQ - Managing Challenging Behaviours of Seniors

COURSE OBJECTIVE

This course is designed for those who work with seniors including caregivers and volunteers, as well as those who are relatively new to extending care to the elderly. Through this programme, you will gain a better appreciation of the signs and stages of physical and cognitive decline in seniors that affect their psychological, emotional and social wellbeing, resulting in the challenging behaviours that they may display.  You will be better equipped to identify the triggers that lead to challenging behaviours, cultivate greater empathy and desire to care for the seniors, and apply conflict management techniques to diffuse tensions and misunderstandings.

COURSE CONTENT

The course covers:

  • Identify the signs, stages and causes of challenging behaviours of seniors
  • Analyse key issues including social, psychological and cultural issues
  • Examine personal roles and bias
  • Review collaborative relationships with team members
  • Conflict management techniques
  • Effective care management

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Social work associates, programme officers, allied health workers, caregivers, domestic helpers, volunteers, people working with the elderly and aspiring/fresh entrants to the social service industry.

Learners should be able to listen to, speak, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3 and use numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 3. 

MODE OF DELIVERY

Combination of interactive lecture, video, group exercise and discussion, and role-play experiential practice

AWARD

Trainees who meet 75% class attendance and achieve “Competent” for all assessments will be issued a Statement of Attainment awarded by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
