The Canadian Council of Professional Certification (CCPC) was
established for the purpose of recognizing the accomplishments of
professionals working in their specific disciplines. Certification
is granted and a professional designation is awarded when applicants
have met the criteria set out by each discipline’s board of
examiners.
In 1975, CCPC was granted a Federal Charter by letters of patent
under the provisions of Part ll of the Canada Corporations Act (www.ccpcprofessionals.com).

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is an approach in
counselling, psychotherapy and social work that aims to help
clients to generate solutions. Its ideas have also been used in
clinical supervision, coaching, education and management. It is an
approach that is client-centred, strength-based, goal-focused,
contextual and usually brief.

Course Objectives |
This 4-day workshop provides an overview of Solution-Focused
Brief Therapy practices.

- Introduction to SFBT
- Problem-focused versus solution-focused
- Stage of Solution Building
- Pay attention to what the client wants
- Set goals (eg use of Miracle Question)
- Build on client strengths and successes
- Formulate feedback for clientsProcess for working with clients
in subsequent sessions
- Work with mandated clients
Participants will be engaged in group discussions, role plays,
interviews, didactic instructions and demonstrations.

Who Should Attend |
This course is suitable for practitioners in the social service
field who are working with individuals, families, groups and/or
communities. It will be relevant to those working with children,
youth and/or adults. It is appropriate for social workers,
welfare workers, counsellors, therapists, psychologists,
teachers and anyone else who are interested in helping people.

Award |
Participants who successfully complete any of the stand-alone
modules will be awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment for each
module they took.
Participants who successfully complete the full certificate with
assessment will be awarded a Graduate Diploma in
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. In addition, the participants
will also receive certification from CCPC granting them the
designation of Certified Solution-Focused Practitioner (CSFP).

Trainer(s) |
TONY ONG holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Solution-Focused
Brief Therapy. Tony was taught by Steve DeShazer and the late
Insoo Kim Berg. He is an approved supervisor with the Singapore
Association for Counselling (SAC). He has more than 17 years of
counseling and social work experience, and his clienteles
include adolescents, children, families, couples and individuals
in the areas of marital issues, family violence, juvenile
delinquency, parenting issues, depression and other mental
health issues, issues arising from the clients’ sexuality (e.g.
homosexuality and pornography).
